There was a question that has bothered me for a long time. I couldn’t figure out why Japanese universities require me to get English skills as high as in the US.
Right now it’s my third-year, I have to gather the information about the professors I want to follow in the graduate school. In order to make sure what I’m doing right now is matching their fields. Then, one thing shocked me. Most of their papers were written purely in English.
Now I realized that maybe it’s not all for stated reasons, the study and research in normal life need that level of English skills. BTW, for me it’s a good news for various meanings. The Japanese papers can not be read outside of Japan for some kind of copyright issues. But I can check the English papers easily through the database that already exists.
