I went to Nanking on July 3rd for an examination being held in Southeast University. It is a really nice place for me because, it was a part of National Central University. When Nanking was the capital of China, it was the best university in China.
Although my hometown is Shanghai and I had my collage life in Anhui, Nanking still meant a lot to me. First, like I said, it was the capital of the “Free China”(ROC, which retreated to Taiwan in 1949). It is like a symbol of another possibility this country could have. Then, because the food in Anhui didn’t fit my tastes, I sometimes went to Nanking by train for meals. Fortunately, Nanking shares a similar culture with Shanghai, so I could find my favorites easily.
Now I am about to leave this country. Maybe I will come back to my hometown sometims, but Nanking probably not at least in the near future. Also, it is possible that next time I am in Nanking, maybe I have become Japanese.
