I think everyone has noticed the recent outbreak that happened in the “nation” across the sea. It wasn’t until ground zero was shut down that I started to take this incident seriously. Despite not like the country, I trusted the effectiveness of its system to some extent. However, I still cannot believe the country that experienced the SARS pandemic screwed up and let things happen all over again.
I am really nervous about the health condition of my parents. Both of my parents, and even myself, have medical histories of serious lung issues, especially my mother who just had lung cancer surgery last year. The average air pollution there is already capable of causing her to cough all the time. She is relying on a Panasonic air cleaner to make life a little easier. I doubt whether she will stand a chance against the versus if she is infected.
Days ago, my family asked me to send them as many medical masks as possible. Masks were out of stock in every store there weeks ago. I immediately sent them 200 masks by EMS. What I didn’t expect was that the same issue happened in Japan soon after I sent my package. The price of any kind of mask soared on online marketplaces like Mercari. Fortunately, the manager of the convenience store that I work at gave me the permission to buy masks before they are put on the shelf at the original price after my begging. The mask problem is solved for now.
Facing the risk of a new virus and no masks to buy, hatred towards the “nation” and its people spread across Japan. Besides numerous mean comments written online, I actually heard similar sayings in real life once. Although I am “protected ” by my Japanese name, random people don’t notice my true identity, this situation still makes me feel uncomfortable as a potential “target”.
From this outbreak I realized the weakness of leaving my parents alone in the “nation”. I plan to force them to change their nationality, so I can help them to leave the “nation” if something bad were to happen. I heard that some European countries accept immigrants through specific investment programs. Maybe this is a solution.
