Thoughts about Akihabara

I believe everyone who likes Japanese anime knows Akihabara, including me. It is a region located in downtown Tokyo. Since Akihabara is so called the  “holy ground” of Otaku, when I was young I struggled to go there.

Almost ten years later, I have finally been to this place as an adult. However, what I saw in the real Akihabara was far from what I imagined. There are many huge maills there that sell electrical stuff, but the prices are not so attractive compared to online. Also some of shops only have Chinese or English signs, which leads me to think why they don’t welcome the Japanese customers? So I didn’t go in that kind of place.

One of my Japanese friends told me that this place has changed. In the old times, there were many small shops selling interesting things at reasonable prices. Thus, Otaku’s liked to go there. Now they are gone and instead of them, the huge malls were built. Akihabara nowadays is mainly just a place to attract foreign tourists.
