I live in West Japan, which is far away from Tokyo. However, I have many “friends” on twitter who live in East Japan, near Tokyo. I have known some of them for many years. I went to Tokyo five days ago for my studies.
I expected that I could at least have a drink with one of my “friends”. Unfortunately, I didn’t meet anyone when I was in Tokyo. If it was because they were busy, I would feel better, but it was not. At least two times, I was in the same region with two of them. One of them was keeping silent as if I would find out where he was, and another said “Maybe we will meet in the street”. However, when a Japanese says “Maybe”, it usually means “No”.
This gave me a great shock, meaning most relationships I have managed are either fake or meaningless. What is worse is that I have no friends in reality. I realized that I really have no friends across the whole of East Asia.
