Last night, I went to a party at midnight. After the party was over, it was 3 AM, so I went to a net-cafe instead of going back to my dormitory because my dorm has a curfew.
Net-cafes in Japan are really different from what you find in other countries. In fact, rather than calling them “net-cafe”, I think that they are more like a kind of inn.
First, every seat is separated, so they are all small private spaces. Then, chairs are not the only option, there are amt rooms or sofa rooms, and the like which can be chosen. It is normal that the customers can borrow Mangas and get drinks for free. What’s more, the net-cafe even offers food at a reasonable price although it’s mostly junk food. The most amazing part is that there are parts of places which have bathrooms. People can get a bath in a net-cafe.
Based on the reasons listed above, I think that net-cafes in Japan are more like a kind of cheap hotel. I went to there only for a place to sleep. To be honest, it was not bad actually.
